Equifax is the largest credit reporting agency in the United States. The other two major agencies are Experian and TransUnion. Equifax collects credit-related information from various creditors and lenders and organizes them into its databases. Equifax disseminates the information in a variety of formats to consumers and businesses.

Two consumer-related services which Equifax provides are credit scores and credit monitoring. Equifax provides FICO based credit scores to consumers. It also provides credit monitoring for all three credit bureaus.

Credit scores are an important metric for credit profiles. They assess creditworthiness. There are many ways to calculate credit scores. Those that are calculated using the FICO scoring algorithm are the most popular. Equifax combines the credit information it has along with the FICO scoring model to compute a FICO credit score.

Credit Monitoring provides consumers with updates to their bureau credit files. Should any changes be made, consumers are notified. This keeps consumers updated and alerted for possible unauthorized credit activities.
